“Grass does not grow faster when pulled along” G. Huther
17 November 2020
I watch and admire students during remote education. The reality we have is really hard for everyone. Distance education is different, it can be more difficult, more independent work is needed …
The support of teachers and parents is invaluable. Adults – applause for you.
However, I will take the opportunity to give you a quote that I like very much and which seems important to recall at this point.
“Grass does not grow faster when pulled along” G. Huther.
I wish we would refrain from comparing our children to other young people in the classroom. When we observe the lessons, we certainly see that some work faster, others work slower, some cope with tasks, others a little less … And this is normal.
Children develop themselves and their skills at a different pace, appropriate to themselves. You should not force anything, give solutions to tasks, or get upset if your child is unable to do something (although it may be difficult).
What is most important in the process of children’s development is stimulating development at a pace adapted to the child and following it – through games, fun, participation in additional activities, showing various possibilities. When we start rushing, judging, comparing – we hurt them. The child will become frustrated, discouraged, feel powerless, incompetent, will not think well of him self or herself …
Yes – when we notice that something is particularly difficult, and despite the exercises in some areas it is still difficult and there are development irregularities – we should act. Use the help of specialists to further support your child in the development process. It is very important to correct any irregularities (still) adapted to the pace and abilities of the child.
However, it is worth remembering that when we force a child to do something, pressure or help – we will not gain what we care about the most.
